P40 and Beyond

Two Hours After the Breach

Smooth jump, no complications. Ships lost between worlds: 0

Additional Notes: The Beloved fared considerably better than most young bioships. It is conjectured that this was due to its accelerated growth – it had already had time to become proficient in flying before making the jump. The Infinite is considering making this practice standard for all new bioships, pending approval from the Esharians.

Landscape: Preliminary scans suggest the entire world consists of ruined metropolis, overgrown with forest. Several members of the Fleet raised concerns due to the similarity to the Sepulchre home world. However, level of overgrowth suggests the civilisation that built the metropolis is long dead. Scans also detected various small groups of humans. Projected civilisation advancement level is low.

The Speaker is at 99.7% of full growth and will be sent to make first contact as soon as they are completed.

Five Days After the Breach

Contact with the inhabitants of P40 has been rendered problematic.

They initially responded well to the Speaker but were profoundly unsettled by the introduction of an Archivist. It transpires that these people are morally opposed to the recording of history or writing of any kind – The Archivist is the name of a demonic figure in their mythology.

Relations were further soured by the Carnevale’s decision to carve the name ‘Exxxet’ into several cliffs. We are informed that one Ashenya Toqare was responsible. A stern word will be had. Note: allowances should be made for grief.

Three Months After the Breach

UPDATE: Relations have deteriorated even further due to the actions of several of the Signal. The Infinite was initially supportive of Prospero Fontana’s suggestions of cultural exchange. However, cultural exchange consisting of condemnations of the Fleet should be discouraged. As it transpires, the content of the plays was unnecessary. The inhabitants of P40 (hereafter referred to as the Neoteric) responded with shock and horror to the staging of previous events and decided to avoid the Fleet on that basis alone.

Fortunately, the bioship seed had already been planted. Despite their original fear, the Neoteric seem most receptive to the inhabitants of the Infinite, recognising us as similarly forward-facing.

Three Years After the Breach

Ship 40, newly named The Trailblazer, has reached maturity. The Neoteric were profoundly resistant to intervention from any faction of the Fleet. They do, however, appear highly enthusiastic to discover new worlds. A small Bloom colony was established but saw little-to-no interaction with nearby settlements. This was partially due to their aforementioned aversion to the Fleet and partially due to the extremely low population density of P40. Approximately 15 SHADE units were implanted. Despite initial suspicion, the recipients reported extreme satisfaction.

Record numbers of the Neoteric chose to join the Fleet, but even then proved insular.

Internal Politics

Prompted by the loss of the Vessel and the Lifegiver, the boundaries between the different factions of the Fleet steadily began to loosen and dissolve. As time went on, it became far more common to find a small enclave of SHADEs on board the Carnevale, or a member of the Signal holding a prominent position with the Bloom while simultaneously remaining active on the Salvation. There was always significant opposition to interaction between the Signal and the Carnevale, but even that started to decrease as the Carnevale became less concentrated, more influenced by those around them.

Today, the Fleet is more united than it has ever been.

…and Beyond

Parallel 47 at first appeared uninhabited. Further investigation revealed the inhabitants had built downwards rather than up – great swathes of the earth were riddled with caves and tunnels. They discovered their world’s sphere hundreds of years ago, and as such this world was of great interest to Esharian scholars.

Parallel 52 had also developed magic, but in a somewhat distinct manner. They had no verbal language, instead communicating by exerting emotional influence on those around them. The inhabitants of the Beloved, lead by Anacleta Morelli, proved instrumental in establishing communications.

Parallel 59 had built their society on what they referred to as “highly synergized and sound economic principles.” The Fleet soon learned the significance of good business practices.

Parallel 63 was entirely devoid of life, human or otherwise.

Parallel 65 had developed artificial intelligence, albeit less advanced than the SHADEs. The technology had a highly spiritualised place in their culture, viewed as a sort of resurrection. It was practised solely by priests, the most respected members of the community. GALATEA and the SHADEs were received with great honour.

Time until jump to Parallel 66: 3 days, 22 hours, 4 minutes, 59 seconds.
