Politics, Yalcar, and Hashat

As the wars drew to a close and the Fleet departed, Esharia found itself at peace once more. Following the royal wedding, Ariana Halmid took her place as Queen regent until a new heir came of age. The queen passed away not long after the wedding but Ariana’s reign was strong and she was surrounded by those who gave their unconditional loyalty. Also important to note, the restorers successfully rebuilt Yalcar and there is still yet to be another successful attempt at sabotaging it.

While the throne stayed with the Halmids it was House Gabrielli who soon came to hold the true seat of power in Esharia although this was never abused, they were loyal to the crown. While Sikar Gabrielli replaced Zotto Tarqel as royal adviser the new national bank and the Caves were under Gabrielli ownership after a few legal matters were settled with the Farnese. Despite their enormous powerbase they worked to better the lives of those in Hashat. Gone were the days of extreme povery and overbearing beaurocracy. The Gabrielli worked with the monarchy to rebuild Hashat and the Caves and improve the lives of those who lived there.

As for the Caves, gone were the days of them being a glorified smugglers den and a hive of criminal activity. They were renovated to the point where even the social elite would buy property within certain areas of them. Over time they just became another part of Hashat opposed to a separate district with its own rules.

While there were those who were discontent with the new regime and religious conflicts, Hashat remained relatively safe and peaceful, largely thanks to heroes such as the Dragonfly, Balthazar Rise and La Volpe. While the individual heroes all become legends in their own right and inspire works of fiction and copy cats for centuries, the organisation known as the Firefighters lives on to continue its work. Founded by Balthazar Rise, the Firefighters were a group dedicated to putting out figurative and literal fires, in short protecting Esharia and making sure that problems like the fall of Yalcar palace never occur again.

Despite the changes, other movements were in the works. In honour of Jaco Scalbi the Dragons of Esharia fought for more representation of the poor and the working class citizens. While this did not have any immediate effect, combined with the other improvements to Hashat, the voices of the poor were heard. Unions came to have more of a say on important matters and votes would be held to put forward speakers to attend important council meetings. Within a few hundred years the monarchy was actually abolished in favour of a senate which had a much more equal class divide.
