Daieni Morelli, Of the Roses and Of the Wound

Daieni Morelli's return to the Heights, in the wake of his miraculous ressurection, and, indeed, duplication, was marred by circumstances involving the Church of Skanaster. Given the public announcement of Daieni's death, the Church had already begun the process of installing the infamous Arch-Heresiarch Camilla di Greco as a replacement, leading to a religious disagreement as confusing as it was inconclusive.

After their tour of the Heights, the Daienim apparently duplicated themselves even further, with two of them departing for worlds unknown aboard the Beloved. We can say little about the veracity of this, of course, but the Daieni that remained in the Heights lived what was by all accounts a good life; he and Anacleta oversaw the secession of the Heights and were instrumental in ensuring that the Morelli retained some semblance of power after the rise of the Arcana. After Rosalia Morelli's death, Daieni himself became Grand Duke, and though there was a surprising amount of secrecy involving the legitimisation of his children, he was a popular ruler before his death in a pyroclasm at the age of 72, alongside his wife Anacleta.

Excerpt from Ambassadors To Infinity, a biographical account of those Esharians who were closely involved with the Fleet

They were always my favourites, the Daienim - so kind and so normal, tending happily to their gardens and always working to make us feel safe and comfortable around the Fleet. They and Anacleta were comforting simpy because they loved each other so very much, and that such emotion was on display served to humanise them, I think, in spite of the strangeness of Esharian culture.

I once asked He of the Wound why they were able to take such a relaxed approach to their mission, and he laughed - said he never thought of it as a mission, but as a very, very long honeymoon.

Gamma-Petal-Zeta, inhabitant of P342

“It is an oddity, certainly. The shape of three figures, pressed into the wall in the Lover's Courtyard, surrounded by vague impressions of skulls and flowers. But I do not believe it is anything to be concerned about - my link with the Beloved merely indicates a deep and abiding sense of love, comfort and care. Whatever consciousness this thing developed from, I cannot believe it means us any harm.

In any case, it has been 150,000 years since the Beloved was birthed. It should be no surprise that the ship has developed eccentricities. 50,000 years from now, perhaps we too will be some strange consciousness, merged with each other and the ship, and quite beyond ordinary human consciousness.”
